Which camera to choose.......?

Well I have been really busy lately with work, cutting grass, washing cars, and basically getting spring cleaning done around the house. However, lately I have really started getting into photography more and more and will be getting myself a new camera soon. I am currently using a Kodak Easyshare camera 5.1mp. I would like anyone who wants to help me out just tell me what kind of camera you use/want to buy and why you like a certain brand over another.....I would like to spend $499-$600 so please try to keep the suggestions in that range. So thanks to everyone in advance for any suggestions and hope everyone has a great day!!!!!
